Emergency food assistance sent to our Peru Sister Chapel

After hearing that Arequipa may be having a problem with people receiving emergency food assistance during this pandemic, we contacted Lucila at our Sister Chapel.  She stated that Arequipa is under stay at home orders and this has left many families with no income. Many have little to eat and basic products are very expensive.  There are families who unfortunately have not gotten government assistance.

Our Peru Sister Chapel Committee quickly pulled together and raised $900 to send for emergency food relief.

Within 5 days from receiving the funds, volunteers from the Chapel were able to purchase, organize and distribute food to 69 families. They put together large bags of food for each family that contained rice, noodles, oats, sugar, oil, tuna, dry meat and more.

The families were all so very grateful.  There are pictures on their Facebook page of the campaign.

Please keep them in your prayers. The government is trying to provide food relief and we are keeping in touch with Lucila.  If you feel called to help provide emergency food relief to area of our Sister Chapel, please contact Cathy Thennes, Committee Chair, 332-6273.  We will organize another food distribution to very needy families.
